CSKA's Dzagoev undergoes right knee ligament op

MOSCOW (AP) CSKA Moscow midfielder Alan Dzagoev has undergone surgery on his anterior cruciate ligament after injuring his right knee in a club friendly.

CSKA says Dzagoev was operated on at a German clinic in its first statement confirming the seriousness of the injury. The club hasn't said how long it expects the Russia stalwart to be out for, but cruciate injuries routinely take more than six months to heal.

Dzagoev twisted his right knee on Tuesday while running into the penalty area during a 3-1 win over Spanish third-tier club Cartagena.

Dzagoev has spent his entire senior career with CSKA, winning three Russian Premier League titles. He's played 59 times for Russia, most recently when he assisted Mario Fernandes' injury-time equalizer against Croatia in the World Cup quarterfinals, where Russia lost on penalties.
