Pakistan elects to bat first against Australia in 1st ODI

SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates (AP) Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first against Australia in the first one-day international on Friday.

Pakistan has rested six of its potential Cricket World Cup players - captain Sarfaraz Ahmed, Babar Azam, Fakhar Zaman, Shaheen Afridi, Shadab Khan, Hasan Ali - in order to test its depth in the five-match series.

Middle-order batsman Umar Akmal gets another chance to prove his mettle since last playing an international against Australia in January 2017.
